Get to Know Katherine Gibson, Senior Designer

Heather McLean

Katherine is one of Form DC's Senior Designers, and has been with us since 2016

We asked her a few questions to reveal a bit more about the influences which have got her to where she is today, both in and out of the office...

What was your first job?

I worked as a waitress at a local hotel in rural Aberdeenshire. Wasn’t cut out for the late nights, but loved sampling all the food!

What’s been your all-time favourite FormDC project?

I am loving designing Pinsent Masons' new office in the Lucent building, Glasgow. We are exploring lots of exciting new materials and products to include in the scheme, each with an interesting story and excellent sustainability credentials.

Why did you choose to study commercial interior design?

My family were always doing something to our home growing up and we were very crafty, so interiors has always been a passion. I realised we all spend a lot of time at work, so a great work environment is crucial!

What, or who, inspires you?

I love travelling and exploring new places, which always inspire me.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

The day will be planned around the best food spots. Likely, a chilled morning wandering around Leith and picking up some sweet treats. Then escaping the City for a long walk, and a pint at the shore in the evening!

Give four words that colleagues might use to describe you.

Trusting - Kind - Fun - Foodie

What’s something you’re planning on doing in the next year that you’ve never done?

I’m getting married!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I loved New Zealand and would love to live somewhere with proper seasons...

What fashion trend do you regret?

I don’t think I have ever been trendy - haha!

What is your funniest work story to date?

Over the years there have been so many, but the best times are always our away-days, or weekend, when we are all together being silly!

What career advice would you give to your younger self?

Never assume anything!
