The aim was to re-position the multi-tenant central Glasgow office building as best in class within the discounted prime sector and Form DC were approached to provide the innovative, environmentally sound, workplace design solutions.
Human-Centric
An early meeting identified the components of the modern office which were missing.
These included the provision of welfare facilities, to support active travel - cycling and walking - to work.
It was acknowledged that car travel is still prevalent, so electrical charging points were provided in the car park.
Local Provision
Taking the building number as a reference point, the 70 SOURCED concept was derived.
It was agreed that, where possible, materials, products, suppliers and contractors would be sourced from within a 70 mile radius.
As with all Form projects, the existing building fabric was considered in terms of the potential to recycle and repurpose for the new scheme.
Hidden Assets
70 Wellington Street provides a dramatic new arrival space with its bold colour scheme and materials palette.
Elements, such as wall tiling, are retained and used to project images of the landmarks near to where the materials were sourced.
The mezzanine level is clad in redundant cable trays which have been painted to create a focal point, whilst offering greater separation between floors.
Timber, paint, and bespoke joinery was locally sourced and manufactured.
Pride of place in the reception area is a stone angel that is believed to have perched on the original building. This striking piece was rescued from a dark corner of the lower ground floor.
70 Wellington Street has been re-born and its halo is glowing...
