206 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, previously a monochrome office, has been reimagined as a modern workplace for The Medical & Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS).

Flexible, wellbeing-led spaces shape a dynamic environment, driven by bold decarbonisation and a contemporary identity.

Refurbishing 206 for MDDUS called for a considered transformation which would reposition the building within a competitive commercial property market, while aligning it with today's expectations around sustainability, flexibility and tenant wellbeing.

As a respected professional indemnity organisation, supporting healthcare professionals, MDDUS sought to modernise its asset in a way that reflects both its established credibility and a forward-looking approach.

While the organisation continues to occupy the first floor, the refurbishment focused on common areas and upper levels, creating a more attractive and future-ready destination for tenants.

The project presented an opportunity to redefine the building’s identity, moving away from a dated monochrome palette towards a softer, more contemporary interior.

This design approach successfully balances clarity and professionalism with warmth and accessibility, creating an environment that feels both functional and inviting. 

At the same time, sustainability formed a central pillar of the brief.

A full decarbonisation strategy saw the removal of existing gas boilers, replaced by fully electric services supported by the introduction of solar panels at roof level, with associated works undertaken to accommodate this upgrade.

This transformation is most evident on arrival.

The ground floor reception has been carefully designed to create a bright and more welcoming character.

Previously constrained by high back seating and a darker aesthetic, the space now benefits from lower profile furniture, allowing natural light to flow more freely and enhancing the overall sense of openness.

A shift to pastel tones introduces a contemporary softness, supported by the addition of planting that brings a subtle biophilic quality.

A digital directory board provides a modern touchpoint for visitors, while the existing reception desk has been retained and clad, clearly demonstrating MDDUS' commitment to reuse and material efficiency.
